We are seeking a Deputy Manager to join our busy nursery based in Basingstoke. The role is predominately room based, however there will be time out of the room to enable you to take on additional duties.

Role Purpose:

To support the Nursery Manager to ensure the effective daily management of the Nursery, to have a sound knowledge of all Company Policies and Procedures.

To be a role model to the staff team. Be able to showcase high quality practice with regards to individual and group work with children, dealing with staff and parent issues as they arise.

Within the nursery promoting the health, safety and well-being of children within the nursery.

Work with the staff in your room to support childrens development, learning and play.

Build strong relationships with all the families in the nursery,

To work with the Nursery Manager to help the nursery future Ofsted inspections.

Work with the Nursery Manager and Designated Safeguarding Officer and staff team in dealing with any Safeguarding concerns or issues raised.

Performance Requirements:

To reinforce Company policy and procedures at all times and deal with any breaches swiftly and in an appropriate manner in Manager’s absence.

Support the manager in completing full induction, ongoing regular contact and probation reviews with new employees, offering support and guidance and addressing performance concerns as they arise..

Efficient and effective staff deployment at all times

Continually develop and motivate the staff team within the nursery through effective role modelling.

Support Manager in regular meetings and training. Staff meetings must take place at least once a month and have a full written agenda and minutes to accompany.

To support the manager during Ofsted visits and inspections.

Manage a team of nursery practitioners to provide a purposeful, stimulating environment that is rich in learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors. Activities should take into account childrens abilities, interests, language and cultural backgrounds.

Childcare:

To support the manager on quality aspects of the nursery, including environments, learning and development and Learning Jounals (through Learning Book).

In the managers absence work with the Designated Safeguarding Officer if any safeguarding concerns are raised. Ensure the all practitioners and support staff have a sound awareness of the Safeguarding policy. All staff should understand their role with regard to Safeguarding.

To ensure that all children are treated as individuals and that they are being supported with this through our approach in planning in line with the EYFS.

Ensure settling in sessions and transitions are well managed for children, ensuring they are communicated to parents, carers and colleagues.

To support on all aspects of inclusive practice, behaviour management, and special educational needs within your team liasing with appropriate representatives.

To deal with parent / carer issues or concerns in a timely manner escalating them to the nursery manager as necessary.

Environments

To take an active responsibility for Health and Safety Policies and Procedures at nursery.

Support the management team to ensure all paperwork is completed correctly.

Check premises daily and remove or action any potential hazards.

To ensure the Health and Safety of all staff, children and visitors by ensuring policies on security and safety are adhered to at all times e.g ensuring visitors have signed in and ID checks carried out.

Raise any maintenance concerns to the Nursery Manager.

Support and develop enabling environments that are child-led, using both indoor and outdoor spaces effectively.

To promote good hygiene practices in the nursery and maintain high standards of cleanliness

Sustainability

Have excellent knowledge of the nursery Learning Book online system and ensure this is always up to date.

To lead in offering an excellent level of customer service to all visitors.

Support the nursery marketing plan

General

Ability to calmly and effectively lead the nursery setting at all times.

Abide by our Policy and Procedures at all times, maintaining a professional approach, behaviour and confidentiality at all times.

To have awareness of any legislation relating to your role.

Show a willingness to undertake additional roles to meet the needs of the nursery, children and colleagues.

Support other nurseries where necessary. This may mean working at different sites to support settings and managers.

Be able to confidently and competently step up to the role of Nursery Manager in their absence.

Any other duties as requested by your line manager.

Due to the nature of the position you must be able to provide two satisfactory references, one from your last employer and have a clear enhanced DBS check.

Essential skills/Experience Previous experience in a childcare setting. NVQ Level 3 in childcare or equivalent qualification Previous experience as a Deputy Manager of be willing to learn
Ideal Candidate/Profile Has previously worked in a busy nursery, running a team Keen to take on additional responsibilities and happy to learn due tasks Confident with parents and staff Has some IT skills as will need to learn our nursery package Be able to manage the nursery in the absence of the nursery.
