Here at Pathfinder Childcare, we are looking for an experienced Nursery Manager. This is a great opportunity to lead a well-established nursery in the heart of Tilehurst located in Berkshire. The nursery is a family run setting which hosts a small and reliable team who dedicate themselves to maintaining a high standard of quality childcare and education to the families we care for.


The successful candidate will be confident, driven, and passionate about childcare and will also be an organised, committed, and a professional individual who is driven by delivering high quality provision and can lead by example. They will be comfortable directing a team of 10-12 staff and understand the role they play in creating a positive culture within the workplace. Support will be offered by the senior leadership team who works closely with the Nursery Manager ensuring that the Nursery team have the resources needed to deliver the very best provision.

Full time 42.5 hours per week

Must hold a Level 3 Childcare qualification

Ideally have managerial experience

Monday - Friday

To help run a 26 place setting


Main Responsibilities:

· Oversee the day-to-day management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the nursery

· Liaise with parents, carers, and staff to help ensure that the particular needs of children are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given

· Ensure the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is promoted and delivered within the setting and to ensure good practice at all times

· Plan and organise staffing schedules and holiday

· To be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness

· To assist with staff development and training and have a continuous professional development plan in place for every member of staff

· Identify staff training needs within the setting as a whole and facilitate training opportunities

· The Nursery Manager will have a key role in planning and monitoring of the nursery and implementing essential policies and procedures. This will require creative thought together with an informed understanding of the statutory requirements and best practice for childcare

· To initially act as a Room Leader for 2 days a week. This commitment will be reduced as the nursery grows

· To coordinate the storage and administration of medicines within the Nursery


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Considerable, proven experience of working within a childcare setting

· Be the holder of a fully recognised Level 3 Childcare qualification Completion, completion of a recent safeguarding course

· Experience of managing staff, motivating teams and an understanding of staff induction, supervision, and appraisal processes

· Identify staff training needs within the setting as a whole and facilitate training opportunities

· Have a comprehensive understanding of the Foundation Stage curriculum

· A positive approach to inclusive practice, with children, colleagues, parents and carers

· Reliable, punctual and organised

Housed in the The Old Fire Station of the Englefield Estate, the nursery has its own built in history and magic for the children. We have been open since 2012 and provide a balanced, safe and secure learning environment for the children to enjoy and explore.

Owned by Duncan and Sue Highet, the nursery is thriving and follows the Early Years Foundation curriculum with the children discovering and learning through fun and play based activities all supported by our fully qualified and experienced staff.
