We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist, to join our specialist school located on the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border.

This is an exciting opportunity for a fully qualified Occupational Therapist to join our growing Therapy Team. You will work with Children and Young People between the ages of 11-19 who all have Severe Learning Disabilities, speech, language and communication difficulties and behaviours that challenge. Most of the Children and Young People based at this residential school also have a diagnosis of Autism and other comorbid conditions.

Witham Prospect School was registered in 2019 and we have had a graded intake of children and young people since opening, we are working towards a full complement of 24 pupils. During this initial set-up period we have commissioned Occupational Therapy support privately but have now decided that we need our own, employed OT to join the therapy team.

You will be responsible for your own caseload, delivering therapy treatment programmes on an individual basis and supporting the wider staff group to understand and undertake any set programme you put in place.

You will be required to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, which includes a Speech and Language Therapist, Psychologist, Music Therapist and aromatherapist as well as the teaching and residential staff.

You will be responsible for representing the school at annual review meetings for each child and presenting a report for this meeting. You will also be responsible for any training in basic OT that the overall staff group may need to carry out your set programmes.

You will work alongside the therapy team to design bespoke intervention packages utilising your professional judgement. You will receive support from an enthusiastic team of teachers, teaching assistants, residential support workers and other therapists with the overall aim being to maximise each child’s potential in a nurturing and supportive environment.

In line with continued professional development, we would require the successful candidate to be willing to work towards qualifications in sensory integration if they do not already have this in place. Although we currently only have a general sensory room, we have plans for a new school building within the next few years and within this we will be extending our facilities to encompass a dedicated sensory integration room.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a fully qualified Occupational Therapist.
  • Be confident, enthusiastic and have a passion for professional development.
  • Have excellent written English skills with good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
  • Possess the ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents, and support workers.
  •  Have the ability to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment.
  • Have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs, in particular Severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and behaviours that challenge.
