Main Responsibilities

·          To take responsibility for leading the team to produce plans ensuring that each child is working towards the desired outcomes of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. To work alongside staff members to achieve this, training and guiding as necessary in order to produce plans appropriate for each child.

·          To be responsible for providing high quality teaching, ensuring that staff are properly deployed, making full use of their abilities and contributions, and making sure that they offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children. Alongside the principal, develop the nursery's own curriculum.

·          To draw up and to supervise the daily schedule of nursery activities and events, showing flexibility and the ability to respond to change.

·          To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children’s attainment and progress are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures, creating a service that is underpinned by a principle of continuous review, reflection and evaluation (with the support of the nursery principal).

·          To organise the key person system and to effectively supervise staff on a daily basis; to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to participate in staff appraisals, developing staff in order to support the constant improvement of the service  and help individuals to achieve their potential (in conjunction with the nursery principal).

·          To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily register, accident and incident records.

·          To liaise closely with parents and carers, developing positive relationships, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.

·          To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.

·          To liaise with the nursery principal, social services and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented; to provide reports as required.

·          To contribute to and to implement all nursery policies and procedures, giving special regard to those on equal opportunities, safeguarding children and confidentiality.

·          To attend in-service training and meetings as required. These meetings are likely to be (though not limited to) weekly with the principal, fortnightly with co-managers and deputy managers, and termly with the full Little Oaks team. 

·          To maintain an effective level of self-development to ensure you can effectively manage the setting and service provided.

·          To undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the principal, in accordance with the nursery’s objectives, and that are necessary for the smooth running of the nursery and the welfare of the children in its care.

·          To share tasks necessary as part of the general upkeep, tidiness and cleanliness of the nursery, and which contribute to the general wellbeing of the team. This may include setting up the nursery for the daily session and putting away the resources and equipment at the end of the session.

 


 * ‘Full time’ describes the hours that are available to work at the Nursery setting. Any additional hours may be discussed, and flexibility within these hours is at the discretion of the principal and manager.

Essential skills/Experience Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years / Child Development. Experience in nursery settings, preferably (but not necessarily) term-time rather than daycare. Ideally, experience working at least at deputy manager or assistant level.
Ideal Candidate/Profile We are searching for a warm, approachable and capable individual who is well-organised and enjoys managing people. The current team of seven is well-qualified and experienced, but still fairly new as a team, so it's a good opportunity to shape and lead them to continue to improve.
