Overnight Carer Support Worker
All mileage paid at 45p/mile, Contributory pension, and health benefits package. Calls cover the whole of Northamptonshire. One client/location per night
OVERALL PURPOSE OF POST
The post holder will provide a service to People with care needs on an overnight, 20:00 to 08:00 with a shift pattern of 3 nights on and 3 nights off.
To provide support and assistance to carers and people with care needs. This will involve the provision of personal and social care, respecting confidentiality at all times within an equal opportunity’s framework.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Provide a service to People with care needs and their Carers on an unplanned basis to assist with all aspect of personal care and supportive tasks.
2 On occasions to be flexible and respond quickly at short notice, in emergencies or unplanned situations.
3 To provide holiday and sickness cover
4 To undertake the tasks specified in the care plan which may include the following personal and social care tasks:
- bathing / showering and all aspects of personal care to suit the abilities of the patient
- assistance with management of continence of bladder and bowel
- assistance with dressing and undressing
- assistance with mobility and transfers
- assistance with nourishment and fluids
- administration of medication
- ensuring a safe environment for those who need constant supervision and help in accordance with Northamptonshire Carers policies, e.g. Health and Safety Policy and Challenging Behaviour Policy
- assistance with appliances (hearing aids, spectacles, artificial limbs, leg callipers)
- care of skin and hair, including assistance with shaving (electric shaving only)
- care of pressure areas and prevention of sores
- care of mouth and teeth, including dentures
- summoning emergency services if necessary
- provision of emotional support to the person with care needs and their carer(s) as part of the caring team

5 Assess and create a care plan for each Person with care needs in line with the policies and procedures of Northamptonshire Carers.
6 To maintain accurate records as directed by the Senior Carer Support worker or Manager and carry out any administrative tasks as required, e.g. assessment packs
7 To act in accordance with Northamptonshire Care policies and procedures, and Carers Trust standards.
8 To treat all carers and people with care needs with respect and sensitivity, recognising the need for confidentiality at all times.
9 To participate in supervision, appraisal and training sessions to ensure that standards are constantly maintained.
10 To work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and providing a flexible service.
11 To respect the personal choice of lifestyles of colleagues, carers and people with care needs, ensuring that equal opportunities principles are applied at all times.
