The Job purpose and accountability:

The Nursery Nurse is a key member of the Nursery team and responsible for delivering high quality learning opportunities and care for the children in that room, based on the needs and interests of those children. They will:

· Promote positive relationships within the Nursery.

· Promote the promotion of health, safety and wellbeing of the children within the nursery.

· Support the children’s development, learning and play within the room.

· Be a key person carrying out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families.

· Contribute to the effectiveness of team work.

The duties & responsibilities:

· Have a child centred approach to the running of the nursery.

· Encourage and model appropriate behaviour and expectations.

· Maintain an accurate and effective child’s learning journals.

· Respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality.

· Support, promote and implement policies relating to diversity and equality.

· Work well as part of the team, and ensure the smooth running of the nursery.

· Work in partnership with parents.

· Attend parent events and meetings as required.

· Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers.

· Work with other agencies to support children.

· Implement Magic Steps Nursery policies & procedures to ensure compliance with the EYFS and other statutory requirements.

· Observe and plan appropriately for the children using the Magic Steps Nursery guidance materials.

Required Qualifications

• A full and relevant Level 2 or 3 NVQ qualification: The qualification must be listed on the OFSED’S list of suitable qualifications for day care.
• Full-Time 40 Hours per week Mon - Fri (8 am - 6 pm), we may consider part-time hours subject to availability
• A unit or qualification including working with babies: This could be taken as part of an NVQ, or as an additional unit specifically about working with children under two years old.

Experience

• 1 years post qualification experience: A minimum of 1 yr working in an early years setting, after gaining a relevant level 2 NVQ.
• 2 years experience of working in an early years setting: Experience in any role, which includes face –to –face work directly with children, within an early years context (0-5 yrs)
• 1 year experience working with babies: Either in a home based setting or in an early years provision.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken.
