Early Years Nursery Assistant Role:

  • to lead a small nursery class, with the support of two teaching assistants, under the direction of the EYFS Phase Leader;
  • to plan, teach and assess an effective learning journey for 2- 4 year olds within the EYFS 2023 and work collaboratively with our specialist Forest School, Music, Sport and Art teachers to ensure provision complements daily teaching.
  • to work with children on a one to one and group basis to deliver quality and consistency, within the EYFS 2023 framework, to ensure no child gets left behind;
  • ensure that the safeguarding of pupils is of utmost priority and report any concerns to the DSL and record these in CPOMS (internal safeguarding record).
  • establish purposeful and positive working relationships with children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations;
  • promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom;
  • support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • support with the set- up of activities, under the guidance of the Nursery Leader, including the selection of equipment that will best ensure every child can experience success;promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance;
  • Assess children’s progress and attainment in the prime and specific areas of learning within the EYFS 2023 framework and upload photographic evidence and comments to our Parent APP Tapestry.

  • having proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the
  • school, maintaining high standards in own attendance and punctuality;
  • having an understanding of the frameworks which set out professional duties and responsibilities.
  • Undertake a range of tasks and activities: carry out school duties, as required;

attend, within reason, out of hours events including those organised by Friends of Carrdus School; 

  • meet with, and report to Head as necessary;
  • attend staff INSET, Training Courses (First Aid/Health and Safety &
  • Safeguarding/ Child Protection Courses) and staff development, as required;
  • undertake any other reasonable duties or tasks directed by the Head.

  2. Essential Requirements:
  • Level 3 Childcare qualification (This includes the NNEB or equivalent) or above in EYFS;
  • previous experience of working in a School in a similar role;
  • show evidence of having the following personal attributes:

  • be a strong communicator;
  • have a strong work ethic;
  • have good interpersonal skills;
  • have a natural ability to get on with, support, understand and command the respect of children;
  • have enthusiasm for and interest in the education and welfare of young people;

  • be an ambassador for Carrdus School at all times;
  • good numeracy/literacy skills;
  • strong ICT skills and be able to support pupils through computer-based learning.
  • Desirable Requirements

experience of working in an Early Years environment but also with school children up to Year 6;

Paediatric first aid qualification (Training can be offered)

Founded by the Revd TW and Mrs Todd in Salisbury in 1850, by 1865 it had moved to the Red House, a mock Tudor mansion in Forest Hill, south London. From the first it offered an intellectually stimulating and challenging education with distinguished professors visiting the School as lecturers. 


In 1908, the School moved from London to more spacious, rural accommodation at Chislehurst in Kent. It was there, in 1910, that Nesta Inglis became a pupil. Years later, when the school nearly 'died' in 1935 (it closed down for one term), it was Nesta Inglis who came to the rescue, re-opening it on 1 October (the School Birthday). She began to nurse it back to life and health, moving it to Burnt Norton, near Chipping Campden, on the outbreak of war in 1939.
