Elm House creates a childcare experience that parents love.

We provide exciting, innovative care for our children in a safe environment that presents plentiful opportunities for play and development. Children love to explore and try new things and are challenged each and every day in all kinds of ways.

At Elm House we have first class staff working with us, providing the best childcare for our families. We recruit staff who are enthusiastic, with a never- ending commitment to the children. Parents are reassured that their child is happy and their emotional needs are met. We work closely with outside agencies e.g. Speech and Language, Educational Psychologists, SENISS and the Local Authority to support all children in our care.

SETTLING IN AND KEY PERSON

Here at Elm House we ensure that every child’s start at nursery is as calm and enjoyable as possible.

Before your child officially starts at our nursery they take part in settling in sessions. These help the child to settle into Nursery and provide time for parents/carers to share information. It depends on each individual child as to how many settling in sessions are needed.

On the second visit a starting point form is completed with the parent. This enables the staff to see where the child is up to in their development.

Approximately six weeks after a child has joined our nursery, their key person will complete a baseline assessment. This covers all areas of learning according to the Early Years Foundation stage framework.

The progress of each child is monitored and recorded by their keyperson in their individual learning journal. This is reviewed regularly and shared with the parents. Parents attend regular meetings to discuss their child’s development. Parents can also speak to their child’s key person at any time.

2 year old children receive a 2 year assessment check by their key person. This is shared with parents and with their agreement, the health visitor.

Your child’s key person will work with you so that your journey with Elm House is positive from the start. Our rooms offer continuous provision and have full access to an outdoor area which is equipped with all areas of learning. Staff plan daily activities to support children’s individual interests and development.

TRANSITION

Children are supported by staff on an individual basis when it is time to move to a different room or to primary school. We work closely with local schools during this period and we invite teachers in to talk to the children. We also invite children who previously attended the nursery to talk about their primary school.

We consult with parents/carers daily and also send out questionnaires for parents’ feedback.
