At Silver Birch Care (Residential Services) we provide a range of specialist services for children and young people aged 8-18 years old. Our primary aim is to effectively communicate and engage with children to build meaningful relationships and attachments that support healing, holistic growth, and improved health and wellbeing.


We deliver high quality care to support children with overcoming obstacles, and enabling them to celebrate achievements and develop independent skills. Our qualified and dedicated team will work on nurturing and building the self-esteem of every individual, ensuring they feel safe and supported.


Our residential care homes have been adapted to create a warm and welcoming environment which children can call home. We have built up an outstanding reputation with nearly 20 years of combined experience in the semi-independent supported living and residential childcare sectors via our established sister companies Silver Birch Care and The Beeches. This also enables us to offer a seamless transition into supportive living accommodation, allowing young people to maintain established relationships with a consistent care approach into adulthood.


The Role:

To join a team offering a comprehensive residential service for young people with learning disabilities and associated challenging behaviour aged between 8-18 years. Our aim being to ensure the physical, social, emotional care and development of the young people at Silver Birch Care (Residential Services).


What does a Team Leader do?

  • Supporting children and young people with focusing on their education, behaviour, and physical and mental wellbeing to achieve a positive outcome.
  • Support the Manager in all aspects of the home’s operation, whilst maintaining positive childcare practice, in keeping with the aims and objectives of the home.
  • Assist with the process of development, implementation, and review of service policy.
  • Ensure when on shift that care staff conduct themselves within the guidelines of the home in line with Policy documents and care plans.
  • React in emergency situations quickly and efficiently, and to ensure the wellbeing of the young children/people and others.
  • You will be confident in complying with all regulatory requirements, i.e., Health and Safety, COSHH, RIDDOR and Accident Reporting.
  • Delegate tasks to residential care staff and co-ordinate the daily routines of the home and participate in household duties such as cooking, cleaning, gardening and promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • To delegate tasks to residential care staff and participate in the general activities of the home such as cycling, swimming, walking, playing games and to use any personal skills you may have to maximise opportunity for each resident.
  • You will be confident with support plans and risk assessments and be able to complete a thorough handover to the rest of the team and management regarding the individual concerned in a positive, structured, and professional manner.


Working Pattern:

You will be employed to work on a variable shift system basis, which may include earlies, evenings, nights, weekends and bank and public holidays. You will be rostered to work an average of 40 hours per week (inclusive of breaks) averaged over the roster cycle. The role requires sleep-in's as a part of the role.


Mandatory Requirements:

  • Diploma Level 3 within Children and Young People.
  • A proven track record of working with children and young people within a care setting.
  • Excellent motivational and staff development skills.
  • A great team player, who is also able to work well under their own initiative.
  • An excellent all-round communicator, who is articulate and flexible.

Essential skills/Experience Hold a Level 3 in Residential Childcare + At least two years’ experience relevant to residential care within the last five years.
