Job Description: Cook

Job Summary: To contribute to the support offered to Residents by providing a varied
and nutritious menu catering to the dietary requirements of the people
who use the service.

Outline of Duties:

To maintain the kitchen and food stores in a clean and tidy condition.
To receive and check deliveries of stores and (if appropriate) transfer immediately to cold store.
To ensure a balanced diet is achieved for all Residents.
To ensure that instructions concerning special diets are rigorously followed.
To record all menus in the Menu Diary; to retain records for inspection.
To prepare a main meal for all Residents daily.
To ensure that the main meal is presented in an appealing way and to ensure that the meal is served to the Residents at the correct temperature.
To inform Care Staff if any delay is anticipated in the delivery of the main meal.
To clear away fully on completion of the main meal.
To provide materials for suppers, breakfasts and snacks on a daily basis.
To check stores daily, to dispose of unused perishable items, clean fridges and restock.
To ensure that all foodstuffs to be stock rotated. Food in fridge & freezer to be in appropriate covered containers, labelled and dated.
To update menus on a regular basis. Making use of seasonal foods and to ensure a varied diet appropriate to individuals requirements.
Take and record the temperatures of all fridges and freezers daily.
Take and record the temperatures of cooked and reheated foods.
To prepare additional food and special items, eg. cakes, as requested.
To ensure that all environmental health regulations concerning food handling, preparation, presentation and storage are strictly complied with.
To take part in training on all parts of the job description and any other training which may be requested from time to time.
To undertake other duties that may be required from time to time.

All Catering Staff must be willing to work under the direction and instruction of the General Manager, Senior Manager, Manager, Deputy Manager and Assistant Managers.
